Backup
To backup your data from your device to your computer you must first make sure that both are connected to the same network. Your device must have a Wi-Fi connection for this to work. Once this condition is met you can proceed.
Start Palettes on your device and tap the Transfer toolbar button from the main Palettes screen. Then tap the "Backup All Palettes" button.
A dialog will appear on your device. Following the instructions on the dialog, go to your computer and bring up your favorite web browser. Enter the URL shown on the dialog on your device into your computer's browser. Be sure you enter the complete URL including the port number.
A simple page should appear in your computer's browser containing a link to a file named PalettesBackup.zip. Click on this link to download the file to your computer. Save this file in a safe place. This file can be used if you ever need to restore your data. Once the download is complete you may close your computer's web browser window.
Tap the Done button on the dialog on your device. Your backup is complete.
If you decide not to backup your data just tap the Cancel button on the dialog on your device.
Important - You can only use your computer's web browser to connect to Palettes if the Backup dialog is in view on the device. If you tap the Cancel or Done button the connection will fail.
Important - You will need to restart these steps from the beginning if you lock your device, your device goes to sleep, or you receive a phone call.
Suggestions:
- Backup your Palettes data before you upgrade Palettes to a new verison, upgrade your device's software, or make a lot of changes to the data. This way, if something goes wrong you have the latest data.
- If you wish to keep multiple backups of your data, rename the downloaded file by adding the date or other helpful word to the filename so you can easily find the correct one in the future.
Restore
To restore your data to your device from your computer you must first make sure that both are connected to the same network. Your device must have a Wi-Fi connection for this to work. Once this condition is met you can proceed.

A dialog will appear on your device. Following the instructions on the dialog, go to your computer and bring up your favorite web browser. Enter the URL shown on the dialog on your device into your computer's browser. Be sure you enter the complete URL including the port number.
A simple page should appear in your computer's browser containing a file field and two buttons. Click on the "Browse" button and navigate to a Palettes backup file. This will be named PalettesBackup.zip by default. But keep in mind you may have renamed it. Once you have selected the proper file click on the Restore button. This will begin the upload process from your computer to your device.
Once the upload is complete the dialog on your device will change. If the uploaded file was a valid Palettes backup file you will see a dialog telling you what information was found. This will include the date the backup was made, how many palettes are in the backup, and the version of Palettes used to create the backup. If you currently have data in Palettes, the dialog will tell you how many palettes are about to be replaced. You may now close your computer's web browser window.
If you decide not to restore this data then tap the Cancel button and your existing data will not be replaced.
If you want to compelete the restoration tap the Restore button. Once complete your screen will update with the newly restored palettes.
If the file you uploaded from your computer to your device was not a valid Palettes backup file you will see a dialog indicating this error. Repeat this entire process again to select the correct file and complete the restoration process.

To export palettes from your device to your computer you must first make sure that both are connected to the same network. Your device must have a Wi-Fi connection for this to work. Once this condition is met you can proceed.

A dialog will appear on your device. If you have a lot of palettes this will take a moment to appear. Following the instructions on the dialog, go to your computer and bring up your favorite web browser. Enter the URL shown on the dialog on your device into your computer's browser. Be sure you enter the complete URL including the port number.
A page should appear in your computer's browser containing a list of all of your palettes. Each palette will show the colors of the palette and a series of links for downloading the palette in various formats. These are the same formats available for sending via email. The zip file contains all the othe formats. The link at the top for PalettesExport.zip contains all formats for all palettes. Click on and download as many files as you need. After you have downloaded the files you want you may close your computer's web browser window.
Tap the Done button on the dialog on your device. Your export is complete.

A simple page should appear in your computer's browser containing a file field and two buttons. Click on the "Browse" button and navigate to a palette file. You can select any supported palette file (Adobe aco and ase, GIMP gpl, OS X clr (text only), Paintshop Pro psppalette, or any image file). Once you have selected the proper file click on the Import button. This will begin the upload process from your computer to your device.
If the imported file was a valid palette file the palette will be added to your list of palettes. If you already have a palette with the same name as the imported palette you will be given the chance to replace the old palette or add the imported palette as a new palette, keeping the old palette. You may then import additional palettes as needed. You may now close your computer's web browser window.
Tap the Done button on the dialog on your device. Your import is complete.
