Many times the value of an item's attribute needs to be from a fixed list of values.
An example might be a movie's rating.
When creating a movie rating attribute you could define the attribute as a text attribute. But this would require
you to manually type the rating over and over for each item. This could lead to mistakes and inconsistencies in the
The better approach is to create a custom lookup list and base the attribute on this list.
The Lookups screen allows you to add, edit, and delete lookup lists.
The Lookups screen shows the list of lookup lists. Each row shows the name of the lookup list and the current
number of values in the list.
Tapping the Close button dismisses the Lookups screen.
Tapping the Edit button switches between view and edit modes.
- View Lookup List
Tapping a lookup list while in view mode brings up the
Lookup screen. This allows you to view the lookup definition.
- Edit Lookup List
Tapping a lookup list while in edit mode brings up the
Lookup screen. This allows you to edit the lookup definition.
- Add Lookup List
Enter edit mode by tapping the Edit button. The list of lookups will change and a row labeled "Add Lookup"
will appear. Tap this row to bring up the New Lookup" screen.
- Delete Lookup List
Enter edit mode by tapping the Edit button. Tap the red circle delete icon next to the lookup you wish to
delete. You will need to tap the red Delete button to confirm the deletion. If the lookup list is being used
by any category, action, or custom item attributes then the attribute will be updated to have the same type
as the deleted lookup list. No item data will be lost.
- Reorder Lookup Lists
Lookups can be automatically sorted or manually sorted. Go to the
Sorting Options section of the
Settings page. Set the "Auto Sort Lookups" option as desired. If off then
manual sorting is done on the Lookups screen. Enter edit mode by tapping the Edit button. A reorder handle
will appear to the right of each lookup. Press and drag this handle to move the lookup into the desired
The following settings affect the Lookups screen:
- Auto Sort Lookups - If on then lookup lists are automatically displayed in alphabetical order. If off you can
sort the lookup lists in any order you want while in edit mode.
