The Item screen is where you add and edit all of your data. You enter values for the different attributes and optionally add pictures and attachments. You can specify the item's category and location.

The Item screen is broken up into a few sections. Two of these sections are always shown. The primary section is the Category Attributes. This will show each attribute associated with the item's chosen category. The secondary section contains the item's category, group, and location. The other sections include pictures, attachments, action instances, and custom item attributes.

At the bottom of the screen is the toolbar. The toolbar provides access to additional functionality.

Depending on the value of the 'Pictures First' setting, the pictures section will either appear first, before the Category Attributes section, or further down, below the category and location section.

Required attributes will have an asterisk before the label (example: * title). Attributes that require a unique value will have a superscript 1 after the label (example: title¹). Calculated attributes will have a superscript equal sign after the label (example: title ⁼).

Items that have been added via barcode scan will show the associated barcode number.

After the last section of information is a date showing the last date and time the item was updated.

When viewing an item you may be able to easily change an attribute value or you may have to enter Edit mode to change a value. This is determined by the 'Safe Item Viewing' setting on the Settings screen. When 'Safe Item Viewing' is OFF you can change any attribute value, the group, or the location while in view mode. All other changes, or when 'Safe Item Viewing' is ON require you to be in edit mode to make any changes.

An item may be read-only if it belongs to a category that has its 'Items Read-only' property set to ON.

You can undo and redo changes to attribute values, category selection, group selection, and location selection. To perform an undo or redo of the last change you shake your iOS device. A message will appear allowing you to choose the appropriate operation. Once you choose a different item you can no longer make changes to the previous item.
Select Category
When adding a new item you must ensure you select the proper category for the item. The chosen category defines the set of attributes you can enter values for. It also defines the product departments used when performing searches and lookups.

If you are editing an existing item you can change the item's category. You must be in edit mode to change the category regardless of the value for the "Safe Item Viewing" setting. Changing the category of an existing item can result in data loss. Only item values for attributes with the same name in both the old and new categories will be kept.
Select Group
If the chosen category has groups then you have the option of assigning the item to a group or subgroup. Changing groups within the category has no effect on any item data.
Select Location
You can assign the item to any of the locations or containers you have setup on the Locations screen.
Product Search
When adding a new item you can perform a product search. Tap the Search toolbar icon and enter a search term. MyStuff2 will then perform a product search. The scope of the search will be limited to the product departments, if any, setup in the Product Mapping property for the item's category.

If the category has no product departments setup you will be given the chance to do so.

Once you enter a search term a list of matching products will be displayed. Select the desired product to populate the new item. Product information will be added to the item based on the category's product mapping. Any pictures associated with the selected product will also be added to the new item.
When adding a new item you can scan or enter a barcode. The barcode will be used to find a match. If a match is found the new item will be automatically populated with the matching product's data. Product information will be added to the item based on the category's product mapping. Any pictures associated with the selected product will also be added to the new item.

If the matching product is from a department not associated with the currently selected category (for example, you have chosen Movies but scan a book) then you will be given a chance to change the item's category to one associated with the product's department, update the selected category with the product's department, or just load the item as-is. The last option is rarely the correct option since few, if any, of the product's data will be loaded into the item.
Single/Multi Add
By default the New Item screen is in "single add" mode. After tapping the Save button the new item will be saved and you will be shown the new item in view mode. To add another item you need to return to the Items screen and choose to add another item.

If you tap the "multi add" button in the toolbar of the New Item screen, then after tapping the Save button the new item will be added but you will stay on the New Item screen ready to quickly add another item. If the previous item was added via barcode then the barcode screen will reappear. This makes it easy to quickly scan a whole set of books, movies, or other items.
Set Attribute Value
To set or change an attribute value you must be adding an item, editing an item, or if 'Safe Item Viewing' is OFF you can be viewing an item. Once in the proper mode tap the attribute. Depending on the attribute's type you can either type the value in directly or an appropriate entry screen will appear. Some types have buttons that allow you to set or change the value.
Clear Attribute Value
There are several ways to clear the value for an attribute. If you are viewing an item and 'Safe Item Viewing' is OFF you can swipe your finger across the item. A Clear confirmation button will appear. Tap the Clear button to erase the value. Tap anywhere else on the Item screen to keep the value.

If adding a new item or in edit mode with an existing item you will see red circle icon to the left of any attribute with a value. Tap this icon and a Clear confirmation button will appear. Tap the Clear button to erase the value. Tap anywhere else on the Item screen to keep the value.

While setting or changing an attribute value there may be a button or option for clearing the current value. For Rating attributes you can double-tap the stars to indicate no rating. For Toggle attributes select the current value to indicate no value.
View Long Values
Some text values may be too long to be displayed completely. To view the entire value, press and hold on the value until the context menu appears. Select the View option.
Value Actions
Certain attribute values can be acted upon. While in view mode, an icon will appear to the right of any value for attributes of type Contact, Email Address, Location, Phone Number, or Web Address. Tapping the icon for a contact brings up that contact from your address book. Tapping the icon for an email address allows you to compose and send an email to that address. Tapping the icon for a location launches the standard Maps application showing the location. Tapping the icon for a phone number starts a phone call to that number (on supported devices). Tapping the icon for a web address launches the standard Safari app loading the URL.

The category, group, and location properties will show an icon in view mode. Tapping the associated icon will load the associated item list in the Items screen.

For attribute values (category, custom, and action) you can press and hold and then a menu will appear. At a minimum you will have the option to copy the attribute's value. Depending on the mode you can also cut and paste values.
Show/Hide Empty Values
Tapping the triangle to the right of the Category Attributes or Action Attributes titles allows you to show or hide attributes with no value. When the triangle points down then all attributes are shown. When the triangle is pointing to the right then attribute with no value are hidden. When adding a new item you will always see all attributes.
You can add up to 40 pictures to any item. Pictures can come from your photo library or from the device's camera (if any). You can also select a picture from any of your setup import sources. If you have Camera+ installed you can use it to take a photo or select a picture. If there is a picture in the clipboard you can paste that picture. While in view mode you can tap on a picture to view the full sized version in the Photo Viewer screen. To add a picture enter edit mode. Tap Add Picture and select a source of the picture. To replace an existing picture enter edit mode and tap the picture to replace. Select the source of the new picture. To edit an existing picture enter edit mode and tap the picture to replace. Select Edit from the source list. To delete a picture enter edit mode and tap the delete icon to the left of the picture. To reorder the pictures enter edit mode. Use the reorder handle to change the picture order. The first picture will be shown as a thumbnail on the Items screen.
You can add any number of file attachments to any item. You can add an attachment through your computer, iCloud, Dropbox, Google docs, or another iOS app. You must be in Edit mode to add an attachment. Add a new attachment by tapping on Add Attachment and then selecting the appropriate method.

You can view an attachment by tapping on its name. Tapping on the blue circle icon to the right of the attachment name allows you to export it.
Tapping on an attachment name while in Edit mode allows you to rename the file.
Custom Attribute
Note: This feature should not be used often. If you are adding custom attributes to many items then you are probably setting things up incorrectly. Consider adding the attribute to the category so the attribute is available to all items in the category without te need to add a custom attribute to each item.

To enable custom item attributes you must turn on the "Custom Item Attributes" option on the Settings screen.

There may be times when you wish to track additional information about a particular item. To do this you can add an item specific custom attribute. Enter edit mode and tap Add Attribute under Custom Attributes. This will take you to the New Attribute screen where you can define the custom attribute. Custom attributes work just like Category attributes with one exception. You must be in view mode to enter or change the value of the custom attribute and you must be in edit mode to change the custom attribute's definition. The value of the 'Safe Item Viewing' setting has no effect on custom attributes.
Delete Item
You can delete the current item by entering edit mode then tapping the Delete Item button at the bottom of the screen (scroll all the way down).
Export Item
You can export the current item by tapping the menu icon in the toolbar and selecting Export Item. This brings up the standard Export Settings screen but is setup to only export the current item.
Item Colors
There may be times when you wish to set different colors for a specific item beyond any colors applied by its category, group, or applied actions. Tapping the menu icon in the toolbar and selecting Item Colors brings up the Item Colors screen. The set colors will appear for the item whenever it appears on the Items screen.
Expand/Collapse Notes
This menu acts as a toggle between the two states. When Notes are expanded you can view and edit the entire note in place. When Notes are collapsed, only the first two lines of the note are displayed. To view the entire note or to edit the note, tap on the note to bring up the note detail screen.
Copy Launch URL
This copies a URL to the pasteboard. This URL can be used in other apps to launch MyStuff2 and display the current item.
New Action Instance
The Action Phases icon in the toolbar allows you to apply any of the actions you have defined. When an action phase is applied to an item the action phase's attributes are added to the item as a new instance allowing you to provide values. Setting, changing, or clearing action attribute values is identical to category attributes.

The list of action phases displayed are appropriate for phases that can be applied to create a new action instance.
Copy Item
You can create a new item by copying the current item. Tap the Copy icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. This will create a copy of the item filled with the same values. Pictures are not copied. You can update any values as needed and tap Save to add the new item. Tapping Cancel gets rid of the copy and returns you to the original item.
Next/Previous Item
Tap the Next or Previous icons in the toolbar to go to the next or previous item. This is based on the item list used to view the current item.
Edit Action Instance
For existing action instances you can edit phase attribute values, apply another phase of the action, delete a phase of the action, or remove the entire action instance.

If there is only one instance of an action applied to the item then all editing can be done directly on the Item screen. If there are multiple instances than tap the instance you wish to edit to bring up the action instance screen.
